One of Austria’s most popular resorts, the lakeside village of Zell am See brings all of Austria’s greatness together in one place. The heights of the Hohe Tauern and Grossglockner create a stunning backdrop for the sparkling Lake Zell. Fill your days with energetic hikes in the National Park, gentle strolls around the lake, soak up the local atmosphere in the medieval centre or take advantage of Zell am See’s easy access to other areas of Austria, you can be in Salzburg for the day in an hour and a half.

The social atmosphere in Zell encompasses relaxing café culture by day, where you can sit amongst the cobble-lined streets enjoying a coffee or slice of apple strudel and watch the world go by. But by night the village comes alive! Crazy Daisy’s is the place to be seen for drinking and dancing into the night. Or if you want something a little more traditional and relaxed, the weekly Stadtfest during July and August is the perfect way to absorb yourself in local festivities.

For local history, it’s worth a visit to the Kastnerturm Tower, home to the local heritage museum where you’ll discover everything about the history of Zell, starting way back when the village was founded by monks in 740AD. If architecture is more your thing, the Romanesque style Church of Hippolytus, the oldest building in the town, shows off some of the oldest architectural elements in the Pinzgau region.

There’s no chance of boredom in Zell with more activities than you can shake a stick at! The Zell & Kaprun card gives you FREE and discounted access to huge numbers of activities, excursions and attractions – Krimml waterfalls, Lake Zell boat trip and Seisenberg gorge are a must.

Water sports are plentiful – you can abseil, scramble and swim through magnificent waterfalls on a canyoning trip or avoid capture by natives and being eaten by sharks as you search for treasure on a pirate rafting adventure. Challenge your buddies to a kayak or pedalo race across the lake, the best way to explore and instil some healthy competition.

For the land lovers, you can horse-trek around the meadows and woodland of Kaprun or try to emulate Ryder Cup glory at the largest golf facility in the Austrian Alps. Don’t miss out on the chance to delve into the local area on two-wheels – you can hire bikes for one day or the whole week to explore by road or head high into the hills.
