Culture
Nestling in the centre of the Bavarian Chiemgau Alps, Ruhpolding’s pretty village is full of friendly, welcoming faces, and endless possibilities to keep everybody entertained. Folk traditions are well and truly alive, with numerous festivals throughout the summer - the highlight being St George’s parade in September, when 180 horses and their riders parade through the village for an annual blessing. And for the beer connoisseur, head out in August when the Village Festival offers ample opportunity to taste the local brew.
To seek out local history, visit the Heritage Museum, found in a former hunting lodge, or learn about the hardships endured by the alpine forestry workers at the Woodcutters museum. Ruhpolding’s churches are worth visiting – see the shimmering golden Rococo interior of the hilltop church of St George, or the beautiful frescoes in the ancient chapel of St Valentin. Why not try -- Floating in the warm, saltwater pool of the Vita Alpina pool and pamper yourself with one of the many spa packages
- Exploring Bavaria’s famous Lake Chiemsee – set sail to visit one of King Ludwig’s castles on the island of Herrenchiemsee – a replica of the Palace of Versailles
- Visiting Bavaria’s capital, the Olympic city of Munich, or crossing the border to explore Mozart’s Salzburg.
