You won’t fail to be impressed by Krakow, it enchants tourists with its rich tapestry of historical monuments and works of art. No visit is complete without a visit to Wawel castle, Polish kings were crowned and buried here, so it is as grand as you'd expect. Make sure to keep you eyes peeled for the fire breathing dragon statue underneath Wawel hill. Another must is the Cloth Hall in the market square, it houses historic Polish paintings and the city's oldest shopping centre. If music is your thing head to Chopin's Salon and pay homage to Poland's most famous composer, if you are lucky you might get to see one of the regular concerts. When you want to relax away from the crowds a trip to the beautiful gardens surrounding the Old Town is a great way to find some shade.
Why not try -- the local take on baked cheesecake, its called sernik, has raisins in it and is mouthwarteringly good.
- timing your trip to coincide with the Lajkonik festivities in June. You'll see locals parading in traditional dress behind a bearded Tartar riding a hobby horse!
- an evening at the theatre. Don't let plays being in Polish put you off, Krakow is famous for its top quality performers and you'll enjoy it all the same.
