Watch the dramatic alpine scenery of Switzerland unfold on the slowest express train in the world. The tour starts at Interlaken which sits between two lakes at the bottom of a gorge draped in waterfalls and climbing to the famous peaks of the Bernese Oberland. The tour then takes you to the home of the Matterhorn, Zermatt, where the highlight of the trip begins. The Glacier Express winds its way up to over 2000 metres crossing 291 bridges giving passengers the opportunity to marvel at spectacular scenery throughout its duration. The tour is rounded off with a stay in the alpine metropolis of Davos.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to InterlakenFly to Zurich. From Zurich rail transfer through the beautiful Bernese Oberland to your first resort, Interlaken (approx 2hrs 15mins). Check into your chosen hotel for 3 or 4 nights.
Interlaken: Nestled between lakes Thun and Brienz, Interlaken has the whole region on its doorstep. Take a cruise on the lake or travel up to the Jungfraujoch for breathtaking views of central Europe.
Day 4 or 5: Travel to Zermatt
From Interlaken rail transfer to Zermatt (approx 2hr 15mins). Check into your chosen hotel for 3 or 4 nights in Zermatt.
Zermatt: Overlooked by the Matterhorn, Zermatt is full of shops, cafés, restaurants and flower filled window boxes. Take the highest open air rack railway in Europe to the Gornergrat, for a fantastic view of Monte Rosa.
Day 8: Glacier Express to Davos
A full day journey on the “slowest express train in the world” from Zermatt to Davos (7hrs 15mins). Check into your chosen hotel for 3 or 4 nights.
Davos: Situated at an altitude of 1560m on Lake Davos, you will enjoy the spectacular yet accessible scenery in this world famous 'Alpine Metropolis'. All guests receive a 'Davos Inclusive Card' giving FREE use of all mountain railways and most public transport in the area.
Day 11 or 12: Rail transfer to Zurich airport for your return flight (approx 2 hrs 45 mins).
Please note: There is no rep on arrival at the airport but you will receive a pre-departure call from your rep to answer any questions. A full itinerary will be sent with your tickets and a Thomson rep will be on-hand in the resorts of Interlaken & Zermatt (not Davos or on train journeys). It is necessary to change trains on some of the rail transfers between resorts.
