In Niederau, local specialities are a must-have. This is because all of the recipes – passed down through generations – use fresh and exciting ingredients and are made with passion. Even the liqueurs and brandies are distilled with high-quality berries from the local farms. You’ll be able to try traditional dishes at the small family-run restaurants that dominate the town, and inside the hotel restaurants.
Located in the Hotel Austria is the Austria Stuberl. On certain days of the week the restaurant specialises in different variations of a dish – Sundays and Mondays are Schnitzel and Thursdays is Knödeltag (dumplings).
At the bottom of the mountain is the simple and traditional Restaurant Tennladen. With outdoor seating, huge portions and reasonable prices, it’s a great place to pop into for a tasty and hearty lunch.
Just off the main road is the Witch Alm Bar & Grill, a modern bar and restaurant serving a combination of American and Austrian dishes. The service is prompt, the bill will be surprisingly small and on certain nights they hold live music events.
Niederau is a real walker’s haven. The typically Tyrolean village is ideal for exploring on foot, so you can take you time admiring the beautiful buildings. Further out, there are plenty of trails through meadows and up mountains.

The bus to Wörgl takes around 25 minutes and costs approx. €5, whilst the buses to Oberau and Muhtal cost approx. €4. The main bus stop is at the Berglift, next to the Hotel Austria. Both daily and weekly tickets are available, so you can get the best value.
